How Saturn Got Her Ring Myth

How Saturn Got Her Ring

In the beginning, Best beloved, before humans were created, there lived nine planets. The nine planets lived in a dark, anti-gravity, anti-oxygen, anti-human place called Space. There were loud meteors & hard feeteors & even some seateors! Mercury lived alone, but Venus lived with her sibling, Earth. All the other planets lived alone. Even though they were lonely, all the planets were kind and good natured. All except Saturn.
Saturn was tired of being alone. She had secretly loved Earth & was very jealous because she thought that Earth & Venus were dating. The jealous planet went to Mars for help.
“Oh, my dear friend Mars, could you help me? I love Earth, but Earth loves Venus instead of me!” pleaded Saturn. (Mars also didn’t know that Earth & Venus were siblings)
“Take this ring and wear it. Ask the lonely Uranus out and Earth will be jealous.” replied Mars, handing Saturn a large grey ring. The ring smelt ‘xactly like nothingness.

After the conversation with Mars, Saturn did ‘xactly what Mars told him. She spoke to Uranus about the plan and wore the ring. After a few days of living with Uranus, Saturn had enough! The plan was not working at all! Saturn marched to Mars and screamed at him for 2 hours! From then on Saturn hated Mars. Oh yes she did! But the ring had gotten stuck on her. Then she thought about something. She had started to love Uranus! They both lived together in peace and from then on Saturn was never jealous again. After a few years she bought him a ring ‘xactly like her own. They even had a baby called Pluto.

That was the story of how Saturn got her ring.

The End

As I sit and think about ANZAC Day...

As I sit and think about ANZAC Day...
I see the brave soldiers standing in their muddy trench, leaning against the wall I can see that they are scared and worried. The sky was very grey. The sound of bombing was getting nearer and nearer and nearer. Soldiers look up hoping that it would end soon. Was their enemy near? They did not know. The bombing died away...

Now I see a large green field covered in beautiful, blood red poppies. This was where soldiers were buried when they left the world. Birds were chirping and the long grass as blowing in the wind. The smell of fresh grass filled the air. This was the place where a young soldier wrote the poem- In Flanders Fields, but more importantly...We will remember them.

Howard Carter's Diary

Dear Diary,

Today is my final chance to find Tutankhamen, the boy king's tomb. I've been searching for five years FOREVER!

I continued digging like I did yesterday. Suddenly I hit something hard. I felt so excited that I dug so furiously my arms almost came off! Then I looked at the progress I was making. I noticed there was a step. I kept on digging. Then there was another step, and another, and another, and another! Soon I finished clearing the dirt. I contacted Lord Carnavon and told him about it. He rushed over to Egypt. We both walked down the steps with a torch descending into the darkness...

Suddenly we hit a dead end. It was blocked with bricks. The strange thing was that some of the bricks were different colours. That means that someone probably broke in already and replaced it with a different colour brick. I was disappointed at first but then I noticed that the colours were spread out. That means that they only dug small holes and they couldn't possibly take out lots of big treasures! We started taking the bricks out one by one. Then we hit another dead end and did the same. Suddenly we entered a room full of gold and treasures. Then we saw something in the middle of the room, that something was...
To be continued...

Tutankhamen's Sarcophagus! It was made of gold. Gems and jewels were on the sarcophagus. Hieroglyphics filled the room, everywhere you look there was hieroglyphics. On the canopic jars, on the sarcophagus, even on the walls! It took us several days just to carry it all out. People from all around the globe came to Egypt just to come and see this, it was hard keeping everyone out.

After a few weeks we eventually carried everything to the museum. I can't believe I actually found King Tut, the boy king's tomb!

The Bird Lady

Today Sylvia Durrant (aka The Bird Lady) came to our school. We hurried to Ruru Block and she had some cages and a cute, large dog (well to me it was cute). "Name some NZ native birds." she said. "Tui, Kea, Kakapo, Albatross, Morepork, Fantails, Kereru, Kiwis, Little Blue Penguin and Kingfisher!" were some of the answers.

First she got two little cages. Inside were two types of birds, Goldfinches and Silvereye. We passed it around. I'll describe it in one word...cute ADORABLE!!! Then she got a box. Carefully, she used a cloth to take out something... "SCREEEEEEECH!!!" came a deafening noise. Out of the box came a small Morepork. "This is a predator." she said. You could see his claws opening and shutting. "When he shuts his claws it is completely locked. The only way to unlock is making it land on a branch." Mrs Durrant explained.

Then she shoved it back in the box. The Bird Lady moved towards a cage with a purple towel over the top. Then she pulled out a Tui as if she was performing a magic trick! She pulled it close up to the excited crowd and started talking about it. "This one is a male because it has a red beak and red feet!" After that she let her Missy, her dog go. She automatically walked to people, letting them pat her. Soon we went back to class.

I have to say this is one of my most amazing, exciting, and astonishing experiences EVER!!!

2 Little Bunnies Came To School

2 Little Bunnies Came To School

Today we went to see these 2 adorable, fluffy bunnies in RM16! They were with stripes, hopping around, eating vegetables.

They were lop-eared bunnies which means they're ears are flopping down. All bunnies have a small cotton tail so I called them Cotton and Coco after my own bunnies that died.

What I found really strange was the colours were odd comparing to other cute bunnies.

Bye Cotton and Coco, hope you find your owners! They're actual name is Bubble and Squeak!

Bubble and Squeak! XOXOXO (Yes, I would actually kiss and hug two fluffy, cute bunny rabbits!)

A Lighthouse Poem

The Lighthouse...

Smells like the salty seawater.

Tastes like dry oak wood.

Sounds like seagulls fighting for fish.

Feels like an old sea house.

Looks like a house on stilts.
